The state of Florida is infamous in the United States of America for its many bizarre crimes.
A large number of these felonies are reported by the local press in headlines that read for example like “Florida man holds up supermarket”, or “Florida man breaks into zoo”.
Then back in 2013 a Twitter account called @_FloridaMan began posting unfortunate but mostly funny news stories with “Florida man” in the headline.
The joke then developed into attributing all the crimes to one singular person known as Florida Man.
Fast forward five years and a Tumblr user called gandalfsoda decided to make up a game involving Googling Florida Man crimes that occurred on your birthday.
The account posted: “New fun personality game: search up “Florida man” and your birthday and see what headline you get (year is not necessary)”.
The Tumblr post now has more than 44,000 notes, and with help from a tweet from a user named swervin merv, the idea spread to other social media platforms where it also has gone viral.
“Mine is Florida Man tries to attack neighbor with tractor,” wrote swervin merv.
While not every single date brings up a Florida Man crime, many do.
In addition, Florida newspaper sites have noticed a sudden surge in their most clicked stories all including the words “Florida” and “Man”.
The Tampa Bay Times commented to cnet.com: “Today, the Times’ digital team noticed something strange. Our top stories of the day? All Florida Man.”
